Patient Referrals to Secondary Care

All routine hospital out-patient appointments, diagnostic scans such as ultrasound scans or x-rays, and non-urgent planned surgical procedures have been placed on hold.

The only referrals we are now able to send are for those patients who have symptoms suggestive of cancer, or for those who need urgent medical treatment. All other referrals are being kept on a waiting list for submission when the clinics re-open.

At the Surgery we have no information on when these clinics will be seeing patients again and we await guidance on this from the hospital.

Depending on the specialty, some departments may offer appointments by telephone or video. If this is the case you will be contacted directly by the hospital and they will advise what you need to do.

We know that many patients are becoming anxious about the length of time they are waiting to be seen, but we regret that until we receive further guidance we have no means of finding out when your appointment may be, or any way of expediting this for you.

If you have already been referred and are waiting for an appointment, you can contact the Booking Office for that particular clinic – the telephone number will be on your appointment letter. However, please bear in mind the lines are likely to be very busy and that until further guidance is released they will not be able to give you any further information.

We are in daily contact with the Booking Office and will post further information as soon as the situation changes.

Updates to any hospital service changes will be posted on the Gloucestershire Hospitals website.

Thank you for your co-operation.
